The Show Goes On…
By Mary Moore/Tell Us Detroit
Though the weather reports were saying that there was a strong chance of storms, the barges on the Detroit River stood perched and ready to send the blasts into the air that would turn into a kaleidoscope of colors and explosive sounds. At about 9:15pm, the first round began with the crowd’s excited reaction of awes and wows. High above the explosives at the Coach Insignia at the Renaissance Center, an excited crowd gathered to support the Cass Community Social Services as well as enjoy the festivities of the fireworks.
The Honorary Chair of “Catch the Fireworks with Cass” was former Piston, Vinnie Johnson -“Mr. Microwave”. He is CEO and Chairman of Piston Automotive. His passion for giving back and contributing to educational opportunities for the children of Detroit and surrounding areas are the major factors in the Vinnie Johnson Foundation. He expressed his feelings of gratuity for being able to support others after a successful career. His works matched perfectly with the mission of Cass Community.
Rev. Fowler, Executive Director, has a presence that reaches out to everyone and draws him or her into the circle of giving. Comments from all the participants always include the assistance that has been given and received from her tireless efforts of leadership and collaboration. She expressed that this year’s event had sold out. That is a true testimony to the beliefs that are held about the value of the organization.
The fireworks outside were spectacular, but so was the warmth in the room from everyone. There was a sharing among all the people no matter the role that each held toward making the organization a success.
